Youth Programs

Alpha Omega Young Adult Workshop

The Alpha Omega Young Adult Workshop is a year round program offered on Saturdays for students between the ages of 14-23. It is designed to serve youth citywide to create well-rounded dancers who use the arts as a positive social outlet, as well as for those seriously interested in a professional career. Students engage in an enriching experience to nurture and develop their creative talents and most importantly challenge the young artist to go beyond their comfort zone and find value in various styles of movement. The summer intensive is a mixture of contemporary dance styles based in Graham and Horton techniques, infused with ballet, jazz and Afro-Latin movement. The program offers students the opportunity to intensify their dance training by attending a full day of technique classes to accelerate their skill level and dance vocabulary while conditioning their minds, bodies and spirits.

The Summer Intensive session will begin July 10, 2010

Arts Education

Alpha Omega brings over 30 years of experience running Arts Education programs in New York City schools. The Alpha Omega Arts Education program uses art to initiate change by using dance to enhance the quality of life for children; building self-esteem, self-confidence, and benefitting students’ physical, mental and spiritual development.

The Alpha Omega Arts Education program consists of the following offerings:

  • Company Residency (Long or short term program of classes or performances on site)
  • Master Class (Taught by Artistic Director and program instructors)
  • Lecture Demonstration (A combination of class and Company performance)

Alpha Omega also collaborates with schools in customized programs that we design together. This is the creation of special events that utilizes dance to educate. Examples include a residency for recognition of cultural heritage months or a drama series whereby the Company helps to stage, direct, and choreograph the presentation of plays and musicals.

All of these activities work within the school environment to provide opportunities for active group participation, cooperation and creative problem solving, to provide activities and opportunities for children to know a sense of achievement, ability, and accomplishment and to provide exposure to a richer understanding of the language and art of dance.
